How to use it
- Drop in a .jpg or .jpeg file, or paste an image from your clipboard.
- Pick a style. Logo or icon suits most JPGs. Choose Black and white for signatures and line art.
- Drag across the preview to compare with the original. Raise Soften if the edges look rough.
- Download the SVG.
Why JPGs are harder to trace than PNGs
JPG compression leaves a halo of off-color pixels around every edge. A tracer reads those pixels as real detail and draws wobbly outlines and tiny extra shapes. That is why a JPG logo often looks messier as an SVG than the same logo saved as a PNG.
Two settings fix most of it. Soften blurs the halo away before tracing, and Remove small specks drops the leftover dots. If you still have the original PNG or a larger export, use that instead.
What JPG to SVG works for
Logos, icons, signatures, stamps, line drawings and flat clip art trace well. Photographs do not turn into true vectors. They become posterized artwork, which can look good as a style but gives a large file.
What the settings do
- Soften
- Blurs the image slightly before tracing so JPEG noise does not turn into jagged edges. This matters most for JPGs.
- Colors
- How many flat colors the trace keeps. Logos usually need 4 to 8.
- Smoothing
- Higher values give smoother curves and a smaller file.
- Remove small specks
- Drops the stray dots that compression leaves behind.
What people use it for
- Logos you only have as a JPG from a client or an old email
- Signatures and stamps saved from a scan or a phone photo
- Clip art and icons that need to scale for print
- Artwork for cutting machines and engravers
Questions
Is JPG the same as JPEG here?
Yes. Both extensions are the same format, and both work.
Why does my JPG trace look noisy?
Compression artifacts around the edges. Raise Soften, raise Remove small specks, and lower the color count. A bigger or less compressed source helps most.
Can I get a transparent background?
JPGs have no transparency, so the background is a solid color. Tick Make white background transparent for a white one, or use Black and white, which leaves the background out.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Tracing and file creation happen in your browser, using code that is part of this page. Your image is not sent to a server. You can check this in your browser's network tab while you use the tool.
